October kicks off our annual Kyle Snook Sockctober event where Key Club collects new socks to donate to kids in foster care. Last year was a record-breaking year for us with the help of Bethany Middle School. We are hoping to break that record again! Socks can be donated in the key club collection bin in the commons all month long.

Take a look at what all is happening in the BHS library this fall! Mark your calendars now for fantastic fall events you won't want to miss!

17 Bethany students had an opportunity to attend the University of Oklahoma Engineering Open House last week. During this event, students attended tours and observed a variety of competitions sponsored by various engineering departments, including structural, mechanical, chemical and petroleum engineering fields.
Mentors answered questions during Q&A sessions, as well.

Look at this neat piece of history that was found and delivered by a colleague at Putnam City! It's an old diploma cover, from 1922! We're looking into the history of it!
If you have some fun artifacts to share, we'd love to see them!

The week ahead at BHS...

Halle Hungerford has been selected to the Oklahoma Secondary Dance Team Directors Association (OSDTDA) All State Dance Team. Halle earned this prestigious honor through a challenging video audition that required dancers to master multiple styles, including Pom, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Kick. Out of 122 Senior dancers from across the state only 30 were selected. In 1997, OSDTDA was formed by a group of dance team directors and coaches. Because dance and pom teams were not an official sport yet under the OSSAA umbrella, OSDTDA was created to provide competition opportunities for the dance teams in Oklahoma.
In addition to her All State recognition, Halle has also been named to the OSDTDA West All Region Dance Team!
The All State dancers will have the opportunity to perform together and be recognized at the upcoming Pom State competition in Tulsa this December, in front of teams from across Oklahoma!

“Bethany High School is being awarded a year 2 grant from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics ! This grant will provide another new flight simulator, class supplies and professional development for our aviation program. Great thanks and appreciation of support goes to our school board, parents, Dr. Bellows, Principal Jewell and our students! Way to go, Bronchos!”
Shout out to the Key Club students for volunteering at the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank yesterday. Students packaged 73 boxes of frozen potatoes, which equaled 2,190 pounds of potatoes feeding 1,852 meals. Way to go Key club!

Over 1.3 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Yesterday, officials announced the names of the 16,000 semifinalists, with less than 30 from Oklahoma, and one of them BHS senior, Luke Gillespie.
Semifinalists represent less than 1% of US high school seniors and include the highest scoring entrants in each state. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by their high school, write an essay, and earn a qualifying SAT score. Additionally, taken into account, are the student's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership, abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
Congratulations, Luke, for being a semifinalist and good luck as you advance in this prestigious competition!
(Finalists will be announced in the spring.)
