Dear Families, 

 We are so excited and honored to serve your students here at Earl Harris Elementary! We are so thankful and blessed we get to have two school counselors here. As the school counselors, we will be providing lessons within the classroom on social-emotional learning, group counseling, and individual counseling. In the classroom, we will cover topics such as emotion identification, empathy, listening, kindness, respect, friendship, and conflict resolution. 

In group counseling, we will cover topics such as anxiety, self-esteem, anger, friendship, and social skills. To understand the student’s concerns, we will listen to them as they identify their emotions, validate their feelings, and help them look at their situation from other possible viewpoints. We also offer individual counseling to help students navigate difficult situations at home or in their family systems such as grief/loss, divorce, deployment of a parent, or other challenging situations.

You as the caregivers can refer your child to the school counselor. Also, students can self-refer and request to see a counselor, or a teacher, administrator, or friend may refer students to the counselor. Children need to feel safe and connected at home and at school. We want to provide our students with a place to feel safe, seen, heard, and valued. When visiting with students, we always encourage them to communicate openly with their caregivers.
